In the evolving world of American politics, local governance represents the essence of our communities. Local offices are pivotal as they shape the policies that impact our daily lives—from schools and public safety to infrastructure and sanitation. With the 2025 Municipal Elections around the corner in KSQ, Republicans in our area have an unprecedented opportunity to get back in the game on a local level.
The near-term task is to identify excellent candidates for our local Kennett area municipal races including:
Kennett Square Mayor
Kennett Square Borough Council Member
Kennett Township Supervisor
New Garden Township Supervisor
Kennett Consolidated School Board Members
Our candidates must be selected by the end of February.
Here are a key candidate dates leading up to the May 20th Municipal Primary:
First day to circulate and file nomination petitions - February 18
Last day to circulate and file nomination petitions - March 11
First day to circulate and file nomination papers - March 12
Last day to file objections to nomination petitions - March 18
Ballot lottery - March 19
Last day for withdrawal by candidates who filed nomination petitions - March 26
Last day to REGISTER to vote in the primary - May 5
Last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot - May 13
Last day for County Boards of Elections to receive voted mail-in and civilian
absentee ballots (must be received by 8:00 P.M.). - May 20
MUNICIPAL PRIMARY - May 20
It’s critical that we Republicans put forward candidates that are leaders in their own right, who will prioritize fiscal responsibility and who understand the need for prayerful wisdom when making decisions.
The positions on the ballot this May are detailed below. Residency in the area being represented is required. The General Election will be on November 4, 2025.
Positions on the Ballot
For Our Municipal Governments

The terms of 5 of 7 Kennett Square Borough Council Members, as well as the term of the Kennett Square Mayor, will expire on 1/1/2026. They are all Democrats who will likely seek re-election in November. This large number of open positions gives KSQ Republicans an unprecedented opportunity to run, and potentially win, seats on the borough council! But we need to start now.
The term of a Democrat Kennett Township Supervisor will expire on 12/31/2025. Of the current three township Supervisors, only one is a Republican.
The terms of two Democrat New Garden Township Supervisors will expire on 1/1/2026. Of the current five township Supervisors, only one is a Republican.
As you can see, our local municipal governments are dominated by Democrats. This imbalance has had serious consequences. According to Ted Moxon, Chair of the Area 17 Republican Committee, "We have experienced financial tragedies in our area in the past and must be diligent to elect quality people who will protect our interests. We don’t need expensive shiny objects that consume big tax dollars and serve very few citizens."

For Our School Board

The 2025 election will fill four of the nine seats on the Kennett School Board. The following terms will expire in December 2025. The following seats will be on the ballot:
Region A - Kennett Square Borough (1 seat)
Region B- New Garden Township (1 seat)
Region C - Kennett Township (2 seats)
Of the current nine school board members, eight are Democrats, with only one Republican who is retiring. The remaining five Democrat school board members terms will last until 2027.
As you can see, our school board is also dominated by Democrats. "We need ethical people that will not only support fiscal responsibility but also speak-up to protect our children from ideology indoctrination and exposure to porn which frankly IS already in our school libraries today," Moxon said.

Judge of Election
In addition, the Judge of Elections position will be on the ballot for the Kennett Square North and for Kennett Township 1 precincts.
The Need to Take Action
In the KSQ Area, Republicans are significantly outnumbered in all forms of municipal office. Yet, more people from all backgrounds are waking up to the damaging policies and bad governance by the left that have produced bad outcomes across the region and across the nation.
This is an ideal moment for passionate individuals to influence their local governments. In this post, we highlight why Republican candidates are vital for 2025 and how they can initiate real, impactful change.
The Power of Local Government
Local governments have a profound impact on everyday life, influencing education, transportation, public safety, and community services. For instance, a local council's decision on funding public schools can determine the quality of education for thousands of children. Research indicates that 90% of students attend public schools, emphasizing the importance of local government in shaping educational outcomes.
When Republicans step into local office, they can elevate their values and principles. Initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, community involvement, and personal freedom can lead to significant enhancements in the community's overall quality of life. For example, cities that prioritize small business growth see an average employment increase of 15%, creating opportunities for residents.

The application of these values helps build resilient communities that thrive on unity and shared goals. With a growing emphasis on local issues, it is crucial for candidates to voice the needs and aspirations of their constituents at the grassroots level.
Opportunities for Impact in 2025
As we approach the 2025 elections, notable opportunities await Republicans eager to make a difference. Borough Council, Township Supervisor boards, school board, and judge of election are the critical local offices that need Republican representation.
Engaging in these roles can be a steppingstone to greater influence within state and national politics. For instance, many governors and U.S. Senators begin their political careers in local offices. By participating in governance, individuals can create lasting change that contributes to a broader legislative framework.
Additionally, advocating for education policies that emphasize parental involvement and school choice can positively influence future generations.
Building Community Relationships
Running for local office transcends mere political ambition; it is an opportunity to forge significant connections. A candidate's willingness to listen, grasp community concerns, and rally support is crucial for effective governance.
In local races, personal relationships often outweigh party affiliation. Trust and a genuine dedication to community interests create a solid foundation for a fruitful political journey.
Candidates should actively participate in community events and engage residents in meaningful discussions about their experiences and aspirations. This two-way dialogue not only reinforces the candidate's platform but also strengthens community ties.

Visibility in community events and collaboration with local organizations can enhance a candidate’s reputation. Establishing a rapport with constituents fosters an environment of cooperation and support.
The Ripple Effect of Local Action
One of the remarkable aspects of local governance is its ability to inspire change beyond its immediate boundaries. When Republicans successfully hold local office, their influence can lead to impactful changes at the state and national levels.
For example, a successful public safety initiative in one city can encourage surrounding municipalities to adopt similar strategies, creating a regional improvement in crime rates. Research shows that cities that implement community policing strategies can reduce crime rates by up to 30%, showcasing the interconnectedness of local governance.
Key Strategies for Success
To effectively run for local office, candidates should prioritize a few key strategies:
Understand the Needs of the Community: Conduct surveys and attend meetings to grasp what matters to residents.
Promote Local Issues: Focus on pressing concerns like education, safety, and infrastructure to tailor a campaign around achievable solutions.
Leverage Local Networks: Build connections with local leaders and organizations to enhance credibility and support.
Use Social Media Wisely: Engage meaningfully on platforms frequented by the community, ensuring messaging aligns with local values.
Stay Consistent: Remain faithful to conservative principles while being flexible to community needs.

Applying these strategies not only increases a candidate's visibility but also establishes a campaign based on trust and reliability. This groundwork, coupled with a clear message, can lead to unexpected success.
Taking Action for 2025
As we approach 2025, the need for Republicans to engage in local governance is more critical than ever. Running for local office is not just an aspiration; it is a chance to create real change in our communities. Every decision made at the local level influences lives in meaningful ways.
Now is the moment for those passionate about civic duty to embrace the challenge of public service. With vision, determination, and deep community commitment, the potential for positive change is immense. By standing up and advocating for local interests, Republicans can shape the future and foster a stronger, more connected society.
So, step up! Together, we can make a difference.
